Still a Bad Dog

Greetings to all curious minds!

I'm Akzhan — a data consultant based in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and this is my blog.

I started this blog in 2023 when I was a Data Product Manager at a marketplace, mostly writing for myself and anyone curious enough to read about statistics, engineering, and the occasional rabbit hole. The posts were technical, a bit rough, and genuinely fun to write. That part hasn't changed.

What has changed: I've since led a full BI team at an agricultural holding, built data systems across fintech, FMCG, and Oil & Gas, and recently made the jump to independent consulting. I now take on projects globally — strategy, infrastructure, analytics, ML, AI — for founders, product owners, and executives who need a data partner, not just a contractor.

This blog still lives at the intersection of data, business, and the human experience. Some posts will be deep technical dives. Others will be about what actually happens when you try to build data capabilities inside a real company with real constraints and real politics.
